Exponent Energy, a Bengaluru-based firm, has launched its 'Exponent Oto' technology for retrofitting existing CNG and LPG three-wheelers into electric vehicles (EVs). This innovative solution allows auto-rickshaws to be converted in just 24 hours, replacing their internal combustion engines with electric powertrains and Exponent's rapid-charging battery systems. The key highlight is the ability to charge from 0% to 100% in a mere 15 minutes at any Exponent e^pump.
The company emphasizes affordability and accessibility, offering the retrofit with zero down payment, flexible EMI plans, and a guaranteed buyback after three years. Drivers are projected to save up to ₹5,000 monthly, as combined charging and EMI costs are expected to be lower than current fuel and maintenance expenses for CNG or LPG vehicles.
The retrofitted vehicles boast impressive performance, including acceleration from 0-30 kmph in under 4.5 seconds and a real-world range of 140-150 km. The system is robust, featuring IP67 water resistance, hill-start assist, and IoT connectivity. Exponent Energy's goal is to rapidly accelerate EV adoption in India by making clean mobility accessible to millions of drivers, especially by targeting the vast existing fleet of three-wheelers.
Impact This technology is poised to significantly boost EV penetration in India's substantial three-wheeler segment, offering a faster and more affordable path to electrification for drivers. It could catalyze growth in the EV component and charging infrastructure sectors. Rating: 8/10
