Volvo Launches EX90 Electric SUV in India at ₹1.26 Crore

Volvo Car India has launched its flagship EX90 electric SUV at an introductory price of ₹1.26 crore. The luxury model features a 625-km range and aims to boost the brand's premium EV presence, even as the global parent company faces market challenges in China and the US.

Volvo Car India has officially launched the EX90, its new flagship electric SUV, in the Indian market with an ex-showroom price of ₹1.26 crore. Built on the company’s new SPA2 platform, the vehicle is designed to act as a high-performance computer on wheels, emphasizing both software capabilities and safety features. The SUV comes equipped with a 106-kWh battery, offering a claimed driving range of 625 kilometers on a single charge.

To attract luxury buyers in a competitive segment, Volvo is offering an introductory package for bookings made by December 31, 2026. This package includes an 11kW wall-box charger, a three-year service plan, and a 65% buyback option after three years, a move aimed at reducing resale value concerns for early adopters. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2027.

While this launch expands the company's electric footprint in India, investors should note the broader context surrounding the global parent company, Volvo Cars. On October 2, 2026, the company withdrew its 2026 sales and cash-flow guidance, citing deteriorating market conditions in China and the United States. This global shift highlights a challenging environment for major automakers, characterized by high development costs for new software architectures and volatile economic conditions.

The Indian luxury EV market is becoming increasingly crowded, with the EX90 competing against established premium models like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and the Kia EV9. The company's ability to maintain sales momentum in India will depend on consumer demand for high-end electric vehicles and the successful execution of its transition to more advanced, software-defined vehicle platforms.

Looking ahead, the key monitorables for stakeholders include the pace of order bookings, the actual delivery timelines starting in early 2027, and whether the Indian market can provide a stable revenue stream to offset some of the pressures currently impacting the company’s global performance. Market participants will also track the company's ability to manage costs as it continues to invest in new vehicle platforms and technology.
