Tata Motors Shares Rise 2% as Debt-to-Equity Ratio Improves

Tata Motors shares gained over 2% to ₹423.40 following a strong fiscal year 2026 performance. The company reported a 44% surge in annual revenue to ₹83,855 crore and a major reduction in its debt-to-equity ratio to 0.38. Investors are now focused on the upcoming board meeting on August 12, 2026, to discuss results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027.

Tata Motors shares saw a 2.04% increase in early trade on Friday, reaching ₹423.40. The stock movement comes as the company continues to focus on strengthening its balance sheet while navigating shifting demand patterns in the automotive industry.

Fiscal 2026 Financial Performance

For the fiscal year ending March 2026, the company reported consolidated revenue of ₹83,855 crore, a significant jump from ₹58,217 crore in the previous fiscal year. This 44.04% increase highlights a period of strong sales growth. However, net profit for the same period stood at ₹2,861 crore, representing a decline of 6.84% compared to the ₹3,070 crore reported in fiscal 2025. This divergence between high revenue growth and a slight dip in annual profit indicates that the company faced increased costs or different expense structures during the year.

A key area of improvement for the company has been its debt position. The debt-to-equity ratio improved sharply to 0.38 in fiscal 2026, down from 0.87 in the previous year. This indicates a more stable capital structure and lower reliance on borrowings. Additionally, the company generated robust cash flow from operating activities, which rose by 75.28% to reach ₹14,981 crore in fiscal 2026, compared to ₹8,547 crore in fiscal 2025.

Quarterly Trends and Investor Focus

On a quarterly basis, the company reported revenue of ₹26,098 crore for the quarter ending March 2026, up 19.37% from the same period a year ago. Net profit for this quarter reached ₹1,686 crore, a 32.34% increase from ₹1,274 crore in the March 2025 quarter. This growth is particularly notable given the volatility observed in previous quarters, including a loss recorded in September 2025.

Looking ahead, the next key event for investors is the board meeting scheduled for August 12, 2026, where the company will review and approve its financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2026. This will provide further clarity on how the company is managing current demand and profit margins in the new fiscal year. The company recently declared a final dividend of ₹4.00 per share, which became effective on June 12, 2026.
