Tata Motors Launches Curvv Series X Range Starting at ₹9.99 Lakh

Tata Motors has launched the Curvv Series X SUV coupe range with an entry price of ₹9.99 lakh. This expansion targets a larger share of the competitive SUV market. The update comes as the company navigates margin pressure and a recent 80% decline in consolidated net profit for the first quarter of FY27.

Tata Motors has expanded its SUV coupe portfolio with the launch of the Curvv Series X, setting the starting price for the base Smart X model at ₹9.99 lakh. This new range is designed to diversify the company's offerings in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. The lineup is available in six distinct personas, including the Smart X, Pure X, Pure X+, Creative X+, Accomplished X, and Accomplished X+, aiming to cater to different budget and feature preferences.

Strategic Expansion in Competitive SUV Segment

The company is looking to strengthen its presence in the compact and mid-size SUV market by offering a wider array of technology and comfort features. Depending on the variant, the new series includes upgrades such as an AeroView panoramic sunroof, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. High-end variants are also equipped with Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems and JBL sound suites. These additions are part of a strategy to attract buyers who are increasingly looking for premium technology in mid-segment vehicles.

Financial Context and Market Pressure

This product launch arrives during a period of financial adjustment for the automaker. In its first-quarter results for the financial year 2027 (ended June 2026), Tata Motors reported a significant 80% decline in consolidated net profit, which fell to ₹775 crore. The company has also faced operational headwinds, with its luxury brand, JLR, reporting a 9.2% year-on-year decline in wholesales for the same quarter due to supply chain constraints.

To manage inflationary pressures and rising input costs, the company had implemented a price increase of up to ₹25,000 across its internal combustion engine and electric vehicle portfolio effective September 1, 2026.

Monitoring Performance

Investors will be tracking whether these new product interventions can effectively drive sales volumes and improve utilization rates. The primary monitorable for the coming quarters will be the company’s ability to recover profit margins despite the ongoing sector-wide competitive pressure. The market will also assess if the fresh product lineup helps in offsetting the volume-related challenges that impacted the company's performance in the recent quarter.
