Tata Motors CV Shares Hit 5-Month High, Up 22% From June Low

Tata Motors' commercial vehicle shares climbed to ₹487.40, marking a 22% recovery from June lows. The stock is nearing its February record high as investors weigh strong volume growth against rising input costs and sector moderation.

Tata Motors' commercial vehicle unit saw its share price reach an intra-day high of ₹487.40 on Thursday, reflecting a 22% recovery from its June low of ₹398.55. The stock is now edging closer to its record high of ₹508.95, which was last seen in February 2026. This performance marks a significant rebound for the standalone commercial vehicle entity, which was listed on stock exchanges in November 2025 following the business demerger from the parent company.

The current optimism around the stock follows a solid performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company reported a 26% year-on-year increase in commercial vehicle volumes, delivering 108,700 units. This volume growth helped push standalone revenue up by 23% to ₹19,300 crore. Investors are particularly focused on the company’s push into electric commercial vehicles, where it has secured orders for over 3,400 units, and sustained demand in the small commercial vehicle segment.

However, the path forward is not without challenges. While top-line growth remains strong, profitability metrics have faced headwinds. The company's operating profit margin stood at 11.7% in the first quarter, which represents an 80 basis point decline compared to the same period last year. This pressure is largely attributed to rising input costs and fuel price volatility, which can squeeze margins if the company is unable to pass on these costs to customers.

Industry analysts are also monitoring the broader commercial vehicle sector, which is expected to see a moderation in growth during fiscal year 2027 compared to the rapid expansion seen in the previous year. A higher base effect, combined with external geopolitical uncertainties and potential fuel cost increases, may act as a drag on industry volume growth.

For investors, the key monitorables moving forward will be the company’s ability to maintain its market share amidst competitive pressures and its success in managing input cost inflation. While strong demand and the shift toward cleaner energy transportation provide supporting factors, the sustainability of double-digit volume growth throughout the fiscal year remains a crucial area for investors to track.
