Sona BLW Hits Record High After Q2 Profit Jumps 30%

Sona BLW Precision Forgings shares reached a record peak following strong September quarter results, with net profit rising 29.9% to ₹223.4 crore. Revenue grew 35.2% to ₹1,546.4 crore, driven by a 129% surge in battery electric vehicle revenue. While the order book is robust at ₹25,100 crore, investors are watching the slight contraction in profit margins, which stood at 23% this quarter.

Sona BLW Precision Forgings shares touched a record high following the company’s second-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2027. The company reported a net profit of ₹223.40 crore, a 29.9 percent increase compared to the ₹172 crore profit recorded in the same period last year. Revenue from operations also saw a significant jump of 35.2 percent, reaching ₹1,546.40 crore.

Monitoring Margin Trends

While the topline and bottomline growth figures were strong, investors are focusing on the company's operating performance. The EBITDA margin, which measures operational efficiency before interest, taxes, and other costs, slipped to 23 percent from 25.2 percent a year ago. A contraction in margins can sometimes signal that higher sales growth is being achieved at the cost of profitability, or that raw material and technology expenses are impacting the bottom line. Investors often track whether the company can maintain or improve these margins as it scales its operations in the coming quarters.

The Pivot to Electric Vehicles

The core of the company's growth strategy remains its transition toward the electric vehicle (EV) segment. Revenue from battery electric vehicles now accounts for 51 percent of the company’s total revenue. This is a significant shift for an auto component maker, as it indicates a move away from traditional combustion engine parts and toward the growing global demand for clean energy transportation. The company noted that over 35 percent of its current revenue comes from products that were not part of its portfolio seven years ago, highlighting its focus on research and development.

Order Book and Future Outlook

Growth in the electric vehicle space has helped the company secure new business, with ₹3,600 crore in fresh orders won during the quarter. This brings the total net order book to ₹25,100 crore, providing visibility on future revenue. Additionally, the company is preparing for the long term through its joint venture with DENSO. While this partnership is expected to strengthen its technical capabilities, the management noted that its financial impact is not expected until fiscal year 2030.

As the company continues its expansion, the key monitorables for shareholders will be the execution of this massive order book, the stability of profit margins in a competitive auto component market, and the ability to maintain growth in the electric vehicle segment. Market observers will also be watching to see how successfully the company integrates its new technology investments while managing potential cost pressures.
