Ola Electric Shares Rise 10% on Market Share Recovery

Ola Electric Mobility shares gained 10% on Wednesday, fueled by improved market share and a sequential jump in revenue. The company is betting on its expanded Gigafactory and government incentives to drive future profitability, though it continues to report an operating loss.

Ola Electric Mobility shares rallied nearly 10% on Wednesday to reach Rs 41.50 on the National Stock Exchange. This sharp move extends the stock's recent winning streak, with prices gaining over 77% in the last six months. Investors appear to be responding to signs of a business turnaround, supported by a rebound in sales and government support.

Operational and Financial Recovery

The company’s latest financial disclosures show a mixed picture but highlight a strong recovery trend. While revenue for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 contracted by 45% compared to the same period last year, it saw a significant sequential growth of 72% over the previous quarter. This indicates a recovery in business activity after a challenging period. A key positive driver has been the company’s market share, which climbed to 8.4% from a low of 5.1% earlier. Additionally, the company maintained a gross margin of 30.5%, which remains a point of interest for investors looking for efficiency in manufacturing.

Government Support and Expansion Plans

The sentiment has been further boosted by government incentives. The company recently received Rs 95.8 crore under the central government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. This provides necessary cash flow support. Furthermore, Ola Electric is aggressively scaling its manufacturing capabilities. It is currently expanding its Gigafactory capacity from 2.5 GWh to 6 GWh, with plans to boost output through the sale of battery cells to other businesses. A recent capital infusion of Rs 1,500 crore is intended to provide the liquidity needed to remove existing bottlenecks and support these expansion efforts.

Profitability and Execution Risks

While the market is reacting positively to these growth plans, the company is still navigating the path to sustained profit. For the recent quarter, it reported an adjusted EBITDA loss of Rs 195 crore. For shareholders, the core challenge remains the company’s ability to convert its high production capacity into consistent and profitable sales. Future profitability depends heavily on the company’s ability to maintain strong, consistent volume growth. If execution delays occur in the Gigafactory expansion or if demand for its scooters slows, the company may face pressure to maintain its margins. Investors will be closely tracking the company's progress on capacity utilization and its ability to narrow these operating losses in the coming quarters.
