Ola Electric Raises ₹600 Cr via Rights Issue Amid Sales Dip

Ola Electric has secured nearly ₹600 crore through a rights issue to fund debt reduction and expansion. The move comes as the company’s October registrations fell 10% despite a record-setting month for the broader electric two-wheeler industry. Investors are now watching how the company addresses its declining market share and managing SoftBank’s ongoing stake reduction.

Ola Electric has successfully raised ₹599.84 crore through a rights issue, allotting 37.03 crore partly paid-up shares at a price of ₹27 each. Under this structure, shareholders paid an initial ₹16.20 per share, with the remaining balance due at a later date. This capital injection is earmarked for debt reduction and organic business expansion, providing the company with liquidity as it navigates operational challenges.

Market Performance and Sector Divergence

The timing of this fundraise coincides with a notable divergence between Ola Electric’s performance and the broader sector. In October 2026, the Indian electric two-wheeler industry reached a record high of 2.23 lakh registrations. In contrast, Ola Electric’s registration figures for the same month fell 10.1% month-on-month to 12,096 units. Consequently, the company's market share in the segment has slipped to approximately 5.4%.

This gap between industry growth and the company's sales velocity is a key area of focus for market participants. The ability of the company to reverse this trend and regain market share while utilizing the new capital will be a central theme for the coming quarters.

Ownership Shifts and Strategic Moves

Ownership dynamics have shifted during this process. SoftBank, which has been a long-term backer, has reduced its exposure to the company, offloading 1.12 crore of its rights entitlements and selling 5.55 crore shares, bringing its stake down to 11.7%.

In contrast, promoter participation signals internal commitment. Founder Bhavish Aggarwal subscribed to his full entitlement by pledging shares to fund the subscription. Other promoter-linked entities, such as ANI Technologies and Indus Trust, transferred their entitlements to third-party investors like Motilal Oswal Financial Services and Calliope Capital Advisors.

Financial Monitorables

Investors are now turning their attention to the upcoming financial results, scheduled for release on November 14, 2026. The key areas to watch will be whether the company can improve its profit margins and address the negative operating cash flows that have persisted in previous quarters. The effectiveness of the newly raised funds in stabilizing the company’s operational performance and service reliability remains a critical factor for shareholders to monitor in the near term.
