Maruti Suzuki Reaches 50,000 EV Export Mark, Holds 93% Of India's Share

Maruti Suzuki has exported 50,000 electric vehicles since August 2025, driven by demand in markets like Europe and Japan. The company currently commands a 93% share of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports. While this showcases a strong global footprint, investors should watch how global demand shifts and the impact of the large capital spending at the Gujarat facility.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reached a notable milestone by shipping over 50,000 electric vehicles to international markets since August 2025. This achievement underscores the company’s push to position its Indian manufacturing base as a key player in the global electric vehicle supply chain. The automaker is currently leveraging its Hansalpur manufacturing complex in Gujarat, which serves as the central hub for this growth, following a major capital investment of Rs 25,288.7 crore to boost annual capacity to one million units.

Data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) indicates that between April and September 2026, Maruti Suzuki controlled approximately 93% of all electric passenger vehicle exports from India. This performance highlights the company's dominant early-stage position in the electric export segment, which remains a relatively new area for the broader domestic automotive industry. The company currently exports to about 50 countries, with a significant focus on high-demand regions such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and Norway.

For investors, this expansion represents a strategic move to tap into international markets where electric vehicle adoption is often faster than in India. By diversifying its reach, Maruti Suzuki aims to balance its revenue streams beyond the domestic market. However, success in this segment depends on maintaining consistent demand across these developed markets, which may be sensitive to economic cycles and changing local regulations.

Another point for investors to consider is the concentration of production at the Hansalpur site. While the facility provides scale and operational efficiency, it requires high utilization rates to justify the large investment made by the company. As global competition in the electric vehicle space increases, the ability of Maruti Suzuki to defend its 93% market share in exports will be a key performance indicator.

Historically, the company has shown a strong track record in total exports, reaching over 4.47 lakh units in FY26, a 34% increase from the prior fiscal year. While this overall export strength provides a stable foundation, the specific electric vehicle segment is subject to different technological requirements, raw material costs for batteries, and evolving global emission standards. Future updates to track include quarterly export volumes, the success of new model introductions in international markets, and the company's ability to manage operating margins amid the capital spending cycle.
