Green Logistics Milestone
Maruti Suzuki India has achieved a new benchmark in its sustainability efforts, dispatching a record 5.85 lakh vehicles via railways in 2025. This figure represents an impressive 18% year-on-year increase compared to 2024, underscoring a strategic pivot towards more environmentally friendly transportation methods. The automaker's commitment to greener logistics is evident as rail transport now accounts for 26% of its outbound logistics, a substantial leap from just 5.1% in 2016.
Infrastructure and Innovation
Key to this achievement were two significant developments: the inauguration of India's largest automobile in-plant railway siding at its Manesar facility and the pioneering dispatch of vehicles to the Kashmir valley via the Chenab river railway bridge, the world's highest. These initiatives not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions, lessening the nation's reliance on oil imports, and alleviating road congestion.
Future Outlook and Targets
The company's mid-term objective is to increase its rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35% by fiscal year 2030-31. This ambitious target aligns with India's broader net-zero emission goals by 2070. Since fiscal year 2014-15, Maruti Suzuki has utilized a hub-and-spoke model to transport over 28 lakh vehicles from 22 locations to more than 600 cities nationwide. Currently operating more than 45 flexi-deck rakes, each capable of carrying approximately 260 vehicles, the company is well-positioned to scale its rail transport operations further.
