Mahindra & Mahindra To Sell Truck Business, Declares ₹33 Dividend

Mahindra & Mahindra shares rose 2.05% to ₹3,288 following the announcement of a ₹33 per share dividend and the sale of its Truck and Bus Division. The company reported a significant rise in annual net profit to ₹16,656.80 crore for fiscal year 2026. Investors are now focusing on how this strategic divestment will impact operational efficiency and future capital allocation.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) shares moved higher by 2.05% in early trading on July 30, 2026, reaching ₹3,288.00 as investors responded to a mix of strong annual financial results and a strategic restructuring of its business portfolio. The automotive major reported consolidated revenue of ₹198,638.55 crore and a net profit of ₹16,656.80 crore for the fiscal year ended March 2026.

Strategic Divestment and Operational Focus

In a move to simplify its business structure, the board of Mahindra & Mahindra approved the sale of its Truck and Bus Division to SML Mahindra Limited. This transaction, executed through a slump sale, was finalized on July 29, 2026. By offloading this segment, the company aims to sharpen its focus on its core automotive and farm equipment businesses, which have been the primary drivers of its recent growth. Historically, such divestments are aimed at improving return ratios by shedding non-core assets that may require significant capital support to remain competitive against larger commercial vehicle players.

Financial Growth Trends

The company has demonstrated strong financial performance over the past four years. Consolidated revenue grew from ₹90,170.57 crore in March 2022 to ₹198,638.55 crore by March 2026, reflecting a 120.30% expansion. During the same period, net profit rose from ₹5,397.22 crore to ₹16,656.80 crore, a 208.62% increase. The quarterly performance for the period ending March 2026 further supports this trend, with revenue rising to ₹54,981.91 crore and net profit reaching ₹4,707.08 crore, compared to the year-ago period.

Dividend Payout and Shareholder Returns

Reflecting its healthy cash position, the company has recommended a final dividend of ₹33.00 per share for the financial year 2026. This follows a trend of increasing shareholder payouts, with dividends of ₹25.30 in 2025 and ₹21.10 in 2024. While the dividend provides immediate cash returns, investors often monitor how much of the free cash flow is retained for future capital spending compared to what is paid out. The company has a history of rewarding shareholders, including a 1:1 bonus issue in 2017.

Investors will now look to upcoming management commentary to understand the long-term impact of the truck division sale on operating margins. Key areas to monitor include the company's ability to maintain its market share in the passenger vehicle segment, its capital allocation strategy for the proceeds from the divestment, and whether it can continue to improve its return on equity as it moves toward higher-value product segments.
