Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Hits ₹10,822 Cr Valuation

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, an electric three-wheeler subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, has raised ₹322 crore from Lightrock and other investors. This funding round values the company at ₹10,822 crore, strengthening its capital base for electric vehicle expansion. The parent company will retain a 75.79% stake, maintaining management control as it aims to scale production to meet rising demand in the electric commercial vehicle market.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s subsidiary, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility (MLMML), has reached a post-money valuation of ₹10,822 crore following a fresh capital infusion. The company secured ₹322 crore from the global sustainable investment platform Lightrock. Existing investors, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the India-Japan Fund (IJF), also participated in the round by using their pre-emptive rights to maintain their relative stakes.

Impact on Ownership and Strategy

Following this transaction, the parent company, Mahindra & Mahindra, will hold a 75.79% stake in the subsidiary, down from its previous 78.11%. Despite the slight dilution, the parent firm retains full management control. This move is part of a larger plan to fund the rapid expansion of electric vehicle operations. The capital will support the company’s objective of having one million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2031, a target highlighted by Group CEO and Managing Director Anish Shah.

Market Position and Sales Growth

MLMML has established a significant presence in the L5 electric three-wheeler segment, which includes vehicles used for cargo and passenger transport. The company reports a market share of approximately 40% in this category. Sales performance has been strong, with the business achieving over one lakh unit sales in the financial year 2026. Data from the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 shows an 85% year-on-year increase in sales volumes, indicating a sustained demand for electric commercial options in India.

Sector Trends and Operational Context

The electric three-wheeler segment has seen a shift toward faster electrification, with penetration growing from 12% to 40% over the last two years. While this growth is positive for the company, the sector faces constant pressure from rising competition and the need for continuous investment in battery technology and charging infrastructure. The company’s ability to maintain its market share will depend on its capacity to manage these costs and navigate the competitive landscape as more players enter the electric commercial vehicle space.

Investors should monitor the company’s future capital spending, as scaling up manufacturing capacity requires significant investment. The key monitorable will be whether the company can maintain its profit margins while competing with both established automotive peers and new entrants in the electric vehicle market. Future updates regarding the expansion of charging networks and the launch of new vehicle models will provide more insight into the company’s long-term growth trajectory.
