Kia Syros EV Launched at ₹13.49 Lakh: Key Features & BaaS Plan

Kia India has launched the Syros electric SUV starting at ₹13.49 lakh, featuring a 526 km range and an innovative Battery-as-a-Service model. This launch aims to accelerate mass-market EV adoption in India with lower entry costs and strong resale guarantees.

Detailed Coverage

Kia India has officially entered the competitive mass-market electric vehicle space with the launch of its new electric SUV, the Syros EV. With a starting price of ₹13.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the company is positioning the vehicle as a high-technology option for Indian buyers, offering a certified range of up to 526 km on its top-spec model.

Ownership Models and Financial Flexibility

To address consumer concerns regarding the high upfront cost of electric vehicles, Kia has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. This option allows customers to purchase the vehicle at a lower entry price of ₹7.99 lakh, with a per-kilometer battery usage fee of ₹3.30. This strategy is designed to make the SUV accessible to a wider demographic of buyers. Additionally, the company is offering a 15-year warranty on the high-voltage battery for the first owner, alongside an assured buyback program that promises up to 80% of the vehicle’s value after three years. These measures are intended to reduce the perceived risk of depreciation, which has been a common barrier for EV adoption in India.

Technical Performance and Charging

The Syros EV is available in two battery configurations. A 42 kWh pack provides an ARAI-certified range of 443 km, while a 51.4 kWh pack enables the 526 km range. The vehicle supports 100 kW DC fast charging, which the company claims can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes. Performance-wise, the higher-range variant is powered by a 171 PS motor capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.1 seconds. These specifications place the Syros EV as a direct competitor to existing mid-range electric SUVs, where range anxiety and charging infrastructure availability remain key considerations for potential buyers.

Technology and Safety Integration

Kia has focused heavily on in-cabin technology and safety to differentiate the model. The interior features a 30-inch panoramic display that merges the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Safety is supported by Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes 16 functions such as adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance. The vehicle also comes equipped with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control. As the company expands its EV footprint, the integration of these high-end features at a mass-market price point will be monitored to see if it triggers competitive responses from rival automotive players.

Investors may track the company’s ability to scale its K-Charge network, which currently claims access to over 20,300 charging points, and the actual consumer uptake of the BaaS model. The long-term financial impact of the aggressive buyback guarantee and the 15-year battery warranty on the company's margins will also be important areas for observation as the product reaches mass-market customers starting July 30.
