Hero Motors Stock Doubles After IPO: Hits Record ₹167

Shares of Hero Motors have surged to a record high of ₹167.45, doubling from their initial public offer (IPO) price of ₹84 in just seven trading sessions. This rapid rise is tied to the company's expansion into electric vehicle (EV) powertrain technology. However, investors should be aware of potential risks, including high customer concentration, raw material cost volatility, and recent losses in certain subsidiary units.

Shares of Hero Motors have seen a sharp run-up in their price, reaching a record high of ₹167.45 on October 1, 2026. This marks a 99% increase from the company’s IPO issue price of ₹84 per share, which was set when it debuted on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange on September 23, 2026. The stock's rapid movement over just seven trading sessions has drawn attention to the company’s business model and its growth strategy in the automotive technology space.

The company’s growth narrative centers on its shift toward the electric vehicle (EV) sector. By moving from traditional automotive components to integrated electric drive units, the company has increased the revenue contribution from its EV-related products to 23% in fiscal year 2026, up from 12% in fiscal year 2024. This pivot is aimed at capturing demand from the growing global market for e-bikes and high-performance mobility solutions.

While the expansion into new technology has fueled investor interest, there are operational risks that shareholders should consider. A significant portion of the company’s revenue depends on a small group of large international clients. If these major customers decide to reduce their demand or switch suppliers, it could directly impact the company’s revenue stability. Additionally, the company is exposed to fluctuations in raw material prices, which can create pressure on its profit margins.

Another point for investors to note is the financial performance of the company’s subsidiaries. Some of these units reported losses in the last fiscal year, which means the parent company must continue to provide capital support to these businesses. This allocation of funds can impact the overall cash flow and financial health of the organization.

Recently, the company held its 27th Annual General Meeting on September 30, 2026, where it adopted its audited financial statements for the 2026 fiscal year. Following this meeting, the company announced the closure of its trading window for insiders, which will remain in place until 48 hours after the company declares its second-quarter financial results.

Looking ahead, the sustainability of the stock’s performance will depend on the company's ability to maintain its profit margins while scaling its new EV technology. Investors may track future quarterly results to see if the revenue growth translates into improved cash flow and if the company can effectively manage the costs and risks associated with its expansion plans.
