Hero Motors Shares Surge 8% on Q2 Profit Jump, Plans Hewland Stake Hike

Hero Motors shares rose 8% as the company reported a strong Q2 FY27 profit of ₹10.2 crore and announced plans to increase its stake in UK-based Hewland Engineering to 90%. While the earnings boost investor sentiment, the company faces operational risks from its loss-making subsidiary and post-listing volatility.

Hero Motors shares rallied by nearly 8% in Wednesday's trading session following the announcement of strong financial results for the second quarter ending September 2026. The company, which made its stock market debut on September 23, 2026, reported a consolidated net profit of ₹10.2 crore, more than doubling from ₹4.7 crore in the same quarter last year. Revenue for the period also climbed 24.9% year-on-year to reach ₹319.3 crore.

Alongside the earnings update, the company announced it would increase its ownership in British subsidiary Hewland Engineering from 51% to 90%. The transaction, valued at £0.60 million (approximately ₹6.5 crore), aims to give Hero Motors greater control over the UK-based firm’s specialized drivetrain and gearbox technology. By acquiring the additional 39% stake, the Indian auto-component maker hopes to integrate Hewland’s engineering capabilities more closely with its own manufacturing operations.

However, this strategic move comes at a time when the British subsidiary is navigating financial challenges. Hewland Engineering reported a net loss of GBP 429,403 for the 2025-26 financial year. By moving to a 90% stake, Hero Motors will now consolidate a larger portion of these losses into its own financial books. Investors are monitoring whether the Indian parent can successfully turn around the British unit’s performance, or if the engineering expertise will take longer to translate into profitable growth.

For investors, the recent price movement reflects optimism surrounding the company's core profitability, but several factors require caution. As a recently listed entity, Hero Motors has experienced share price volatility common among new IPOs. Some market observers have also noted high valuation multiples, which can increase risk if quarterly earnings growth slows down. Additionally, the company relies on a concentrated client base, meaning the loss of a key global contract could impact future revenue.

Another point for shareholders to consider is the upcoming expiration of anchor investor lock-in periods, which can sometimes lead to increased selling pressure on the stock. Moving forward, the key monitorables for investors will be the integration process of the UK subsidiary, the company's ability to reduce losses at Hewland Engineering, and sustained revenue growth in its main powertrain segment. Continued profitability in future quarters will be essential to support the current valuation levels.
