Exide Industries Shares Rise 2% After Q1 Profit Jumps 61%

Exide Industries stock climbed over 2% on Monday following a strong June 2026 quarterly performance. The battery maker reported a 61.62% increase in net profit to Rs 350.74 crore, supported by a 16.75% rise in revenue. Investors are noting the company's low debt-to-equity ratio as it navigates the competitive auto-ancillary sector.

Exide Industries shares traded 2.02% higher at Rs 458.90 on Monday, as the market reacted to the company's financial results for the quarter ending June 2026. This performance marks a notable start to the new fiscal year, with the company reporting a consolidated net profit of Rs 350.74 crore, compared to Rs 217.02 crore in the quarter ended March 2026.

Revenue for the June quarter reached Rs 5,528.38 crore, up from Rs 4,735.13 crore in the previous quarter. This growth in earnings reflects improved operational performance, with the company's Earnings Per Share (EPS) rising to Rs 4.12 from Rs 2.53 in the preceding three-month period. These results arrive as the auto-ancillary sector continues to balance steady demand from the automotive segment against raw material price fluctuations.

Financial Position and Capital Structure

The company has maintained a conservative approach toward borrowing, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.08 reported as of March 2026. A low debt profile is significant in this capital-intensive sector, as it provides the company with greater flexibility to fund its expansion plans and capital spending without excessive interest costs. For the full fiscal year ending March 2026, Exide reported a net profit of Rs 859.45 crore on revenue of Rs 17,995.35 crore. The company also declared a dividend of Rs 2.00 per share, offering a steady cash return to shareholders.

Sector Context and Investor Focus

While the current results highlight growth, investors typically monitor several factors in the battery manufacturing industry. Future performance will depend on the company's ability to maintain these profit margins amidst potential volatility in lead prices, which are a primary raw material. Additionally, as the automotive industry shifts toward electric vehicles, the company’s investment in lithium-ion battery technology remains a key area of interest. Investors may track future updates regarding the commissioning and scaling of these new capacity projects, as these will be critical to sustaining long-term growth and competitiveness against established domestic and global peers. The next important update for shareholders will be management's commentary on demand trends for the coming quarters and progress on its strategic move toward higher-value energy storage solutions.
