Exide Industries Shares Dip Amid Market Profit Booking

Exide Industries stock saw a minor decline on August 18, 2026, as investors booked profits following recent gains. The dip comes despite strong Q1 FY27 financial results, with the company focusing on its Rs 1,400 crore capital spending plan for lithium-ion cell production.

Exide Industries shares traded lower on August 18, 2026, hovering between Rs 468 and Rs 471, as broader market sentiment led to profit-taking in several midcap stocks. This price adjustment follows a period of strong positive momentum for the stock, which had recently touched a 52-week high of Rs 496.40.

The decline comes despite the company’s strong financial performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. Exide Industries reported a 17.6% year-on-year growth in revenue, reaching Rs 5,305 crore, while net profit grew by 27.1% to Rs 407 crore. This growth was driven by consistent demand across the automotive, solar, and inverter battery segments.

Investors are currently looking at the company’s strategic shift toward new-age energy storage. Exide Industries has committed a capital expenditure of Rs 1,400 crore for FY27. A significant portion of this investment is directed toward its subsidiary, Exide Energy Solutions Limited, to build a 6 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility. The company has already initiated sample deliveries, signalling progress in its efforts to capture market share in the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage ecosystem.

While the financials appear strong, the battery sector faces specific challenges that investors may track. Input cost volatility, particularly related to lead and lithium prices, remains a constant pressure point that could impact operating margins. Additionally, the industry is seeing intensifying competition from both domestic players and new entrants in the EV battery space, which could potentially pressure pricing or market share in the coming quarters.

Another key aspect for shareholders is execution risk. As the company scales its lithium-ion gigafactory, the ability to maintain project timelines and achieve high capacity utilization will be critical. The management's focus on balancing traditional lead-acid battery business cash flows with heavy investments in new technology will remain a central theme. The market reaction in the coming days will likely depend on whether the recent financial performance sustains investor confidence or if broader market volatility continues to influence the stock's price.
