Mahindra & Mahindra announced a significant year-on-year increase of 23 percent in its vehicle dispatches, reaching 50,946 units in December 2025 compared to 41,424 units in the previous year.
The company’s performance extends beyond a single month, with year-to-date domestic wholesales growing by 18 percent to 4,76,476 units. This surge highlights a sustained demand for M&M's product portfolio across various segments.
Mahindra & Mahindra's Strong Performance
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, Chief Executive Officer of M&M's Automotive Division, expressed satisfaction with the results. "The calendar year 2025 ended on a positive note, with Mahindra clocking its highest-ever volumes in both SUVs and LCVs (light commercial vehicles) segments, a significant milestone for the company," he stated. In December specifically, M&M achieved SUV sales of 50,946 units, reflecting a 23 percent growth, alongside LCV sales of 24,786 units, marking a 34 percent increase. The total vehicle sales for the month stood at 86,090 units, representing a substantial 25 percent year-on-year growth.
Kia India's Record December
Kia India also concluded 2025 on a high, achieving its best-ever December since its inception. The company reported domestic wholesales of 18,659 units, a remarkable 105 percent year-on-year growth from the 8,957 units sold in December 2024. This outstanding performance is attributed to a strong customer focus and enhanced consumer sentiments in the market.
For the entire Calendar Year 2025, Kia India recorded total wholesale volumes of 2,80,286 units, a 15 percent growth over the 2,45,000 units sold in 2024. Atul Sood, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Kia India, noted that favourable macroeconomic conditions and government policies, including a consumer-friendly Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework, have reinforced positive consumer sentiment. Looking ahead, Kia India aims to drive steady, sustainable growth in 2026 by delivering value-led offerings and enhancing the brand ownership experience.
Tractor Segment Momentum
The positive trend was also evident in the tractor segment. Mahindra & Mahindra's Farm Equipment Business dispatched 30,210 units in the domestic market in December 2025, a significant 37 percent increase compared to 22,019 units in December 2024. Veejay Nakra, President of M&M's Farm Equipment Business, commented on the factors supporting this growth.
Similarly, Escorts Kubota reported strong performance in its domestic tractor sales for December 2025, reaching 6,828 tractors, a 36.1 percent growth over the 5,016 tractors sold in December 2024. The company highlighted that supportive government policies, lower GST rates, and state subsidies have significantly improved affordability for farmers.
Driving Factors
Multiple factors are contributing to the robust performance across the automotive and tractor sectors. Improvements in cash flow availability in rural markets, following a strong Kharif harvest, have bolstered demand. Conducive weather conditions and healthy reservoir levels have encouraged increased Rabi sowing acreage, which is expected to sustain tractor demand. Furthermore, positive rural sentiment, enhanced water availability, and favorable crop yields are all contributing factors to heightened retail demand for vehicles and agricultural equipment.
Impact
The strong sales performance by key players like Mahindra & Mahindra, Kia India, and Escorts Kubota indicates a healthy upswing in consumer demand and economic activity, particularly in rural and semi-urban markets. This sustained growth is a positive signal for the Indian automotive industry and its allied sectors, suggesting potential for continued expansion. The positive sentiment may translate into increased investor confidence in these companies and the broader market.
