Ashok Leyland Shares Up 2.13% After Strong March Quarter Profit

Ashok Leyland shares rose 2.13% to ₹161.45 following a strong March 2026 quarter, where net profit grew 56.97% to ₹1,346.73 crore. While quarterly revenue jumped 16.29%, investors are balancing this growth against moderate annual profit increases and the recent closure of a construction equipment joint venture.

Ashok Leyland shares gained 2.13% in Friday morning trade, reaching ₹161.45, as the company’s recent financial results drew investor interest. The commercial vehicle manufacturer, which is part of the Nifty Midcap 150, reported a significant boost in its quarterly performance for the period ending March 2026.

Quarterly Growth and Profitability

For the fourth quarter, the company recorded consolidated revenue of ₹17,246.44 crore, marking a 16.29% rise compared to the same period in the previous year. Net profit saw a sharper increase of 56.97%, rising to ₹1,346.73 crore from ₹857.99 crore. This growth in bottom-line performance translated into a substantial rise in Earnings Per Share (EPS), which climbed to ₹2.20 from ₹1.38.

Annual Performance and Margins

Looking at the full fiscal year ending March 2026, the company achieved revenue of ₹56,362.08 crore, reflecting a 16.13% growth over the ₹48,535.14 crore reported in the prior year. While the company maintained growth, the annual net profit rose by a more modest 9.49% to ₹3,669.36 crore. Interestingly, while the Return on Equity (ROE) stood at 24.37% for the year, the annual EPS experienced a decline, dropping to ₹5.91 compared to ₹10.58 in the previous fiscal year. This divergence between quarterly success and annual EPS contraction is a detail for investors to track as they evaluate the company's long-term earnings power.

Recent Corporate Developments

Investor sentiment has also been influenced by recent corporate actions. In May 2026, the company declared a second interim dividend of ₹2.50 per share, following a 1:1 bonus issue announced in May 2025. Additionally, the company completed the voluntary liquidation of its associate entity, Ashok Leyland John Deere Construction Equipment Company Private Limited, on July 27, 2026. This exit from the construction equipment segment reflects a shift in capital allocation as the firm narrows its focus toward its core commercial vehicle business.

As the company moves forward, shareholders will likely monitor whether the strong momentum seen in the March quarter can be sustained amid the competitive landscape of the Indian auto sector. Future updates regarding debt levels and the impact of the joint venture closure on the balance sheet will be key indicators of how the company intends to manage its capital in the coming quarters.
