India to Become Honda's Global EV Production Hub
Honda Cars India is set to manufacture its first mass-market electric vehicle in the country, with plans to export it globally, including to Japan. This move significantly expands India's role in Honda's international production strategy.
Strategic Product Push in India
India is a key strategic market for Honda, ranking among its top three worldwide. The company plans to launch six new vehicles in the current fiscal year. The recently updated 2026 City facelift and the upcoming ZR-V Hybrid SUV are central to this renewed focus on the Indian market.
EV Launch and Hybrid Importance
The company's first mass-market EV, developed with a "made in India, for India and global markets" philosophy, is expected to launch in the latter half of 2026. Honda believes hybrid vehicles are vital for India's automotive market transition. Despite a rise in EV adoption to about 4% from 2%, hybrids are seen as a crucial bridge for consumer acceptance before widespread EV adoption.
Sustainability and New Models
Honda is committed to sustainable mobility and exploring flex-fuel vehicle options, pending supportive policies. The ZR-V Hybrid will be Honda's premium SUV offering in India, imported as a fully assembled unit and expected to launch soon. The company is also introducing other new models to capture market share in India's dynamic automotive landscape.
