Detailed Coverage :

The NLHortiRoad2India initiative, a public-private partnership between India and the Netherlands, is set to revolutionize Indian agriculture by introducing advanced Dutch greenhouse technology. This collaboration aims to empower Indian entrepreneurs and farmers to establish high-tech greenhouses for year-round cultivation of premium horticultural products, such as strawberries, cherry tomatoes, and microgreens.

The program offers a comprehensive package including cutting-edge Dutch technology, guaranteed market access, extensive farmer training, and long-term financing solutions to encourage adoption. Three pilot projects are already underway in Punjab, Bengaluru, and Chennai, with full operations expected by the end of 2026. These pilots will serve as models for scalable, region-specific greenhouse farming adapted to India's diverse climate and market needs.

While establishing a typical high-tech greenhouse can cost millions of euros, the initiative projects a return on investment exceeding 25%. The partnership addresses critical issues like post-harvest losses, food safety, and inefficient grading by providing tailored solutions for growers, retailers, and consumers. It also seeks to foster start-up collaborations between Indian and Dutch innovators, potentially creating jobs and strengthening the agri-tech framework in India and Africa.

Impact This initiative is expected to significantly boost the Indian agri-tech sector by introducing modern cultivation techniques, improving the quality and availability of horticultural produce, and enhancing farmer profitability. It can lead to increased investment in agricultural technology and infrastructure, contributing to food security and sustainable farming practices. Impact Rating: 8/10
