Bharat International Rice Conference Sees Over Rs 3,000 Crore in Deals Signed, Focus on AI and Farmer Empowerment

The Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025, held in New Delhi, is a significant event for India's agricultural and export sectors. Organized with support from APEDA and other government bodies, it brings together global buyers, exporters, policymakers, and technology leaders to discuss the future of India's rice trade and innovation.

The conference saw the launch of India's inaugural AI-based rice sorting system, showcasing the integration of artificial intelligence into agriculture. Additionally, 17 Indian farmers were felicitated by international importers, acknowledging their crucial role in enhancing India's position in the global rice market. On the first day, MoUs totaling over Rs 3,000 crore were signed. This includes deals worth over Rs 2,200 crore facilitated by the government with private companies in Bihar for specific Geographical Indication (GI) rice varieties, alongside other agreements between Indian and international companies.

The conference aims to tap into the global rice trade, estimated at Rs 1.8 lakh crore, with potential deals anticipated to reach Rs 25,000 crore. Representatives from approximately 80 countries are attending.

Key discussions revolved around four main sessions: Global Rice Market Evolution, Shipping Logistics for Rice Trade, Improving Rice Agriculture and Nutrition, and Value Addition in Rice. These sessions explored global demand, export diversification, logistics challenges, sustainable farming practices, nutrition, branding, and technological upgrades.

A notable initiative launched is the development of a vision and roadmap to make India a developed nation ('Viksit Bharat') by 2047, focusing on the rice sector.
