Milky Mist IPO Fully Subscribed; GMP Hints at 17% Premium

The ₹1,553 crore initial public offering (IPO) of Milky Mist Dairy Food was fully subscribed by the second day of bidding. While grey market trends suggest a potential listing gain of around 17%, investors are balancing this sentiment against the company's high debt levels and premium valuation.

The initial public offering (IPO) of Milky Mist Dairy Food was fully subscribed by the second day of bidding on August 12, 2026. Data from the exchanges showed the issue, which aims to raise ₹1,553 crore, garnered enough interest from investors to cross the total number of shares offered. The company, which opened for subscriptions on August 11, is looking to list its shares on the BSE and NSE on August 18, 2026.

The IPO has been priced in the range of ₹133 to ₹140 per equity share. It consists of a fresh issue of shares worth ₹1,428 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of ₹125 crore. According to market participants, the grey market premium—an unofficial indicator of sentiment—is hovering around ₹22.50 to ₹24 per share. This suggests that the stock could potentially list at a premium of approximately 16% to 17% over the upper end of the price band. However, investors often track this as a sentiment gauge rather than a guaranteed outcome.

While the subscription reflects market interest, analysts and investors have been closely evaluating the company's financial structure. A significant portion of the IPO proceeds, approximately ₹496.86 crore, is earmarked for the repayment or prepayment of debt. This is relevant because the company currently carries a high debt level of around ₹1,671.85 crore. Reducing this debt is a strategic move to improve financial flexibility, but the company's ability to manage its leverage remains a key factor for long-term financial health.

Another point of focus is the company's valuation. The IPO is priced at a high price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, estimated between 71x and 85x, which is considered expensive compared to some established dairy peers. Valuation in this context refers to how much investors are paying for every rupee of the company's earnings. A high ratio implies that the market expects significant future growth, and investors often monitor whether current performance justifies such a price.

Investors are also evaluating the company’s business risks. Milky Mist currently relies heavily on a single manufacturing facility located in Tamil Nadu, which creates a concentration risk. Any operational issues at this site could directly impact production and supply. Furthermore, the company has a strong market presence in South India, but it faces intense competition from established national and international players like Amul, Mother Dairy, and Nestlé. These competitors have deep supply chains and well-known brands, which may challenge Milky Mist as it attempts to scale.

The primary monitorable for investors will be the basis of allotment, expected on August 14, 2026. Following that, the focus will shift to the stock's debut on August 18, 2026, and how the company utilizes its expansion capital to diversify its market reach and manufacturing capabilities beyond its current regional base.
