The Indian government is scheduled to disburse the 21st instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana on November 19. This scheme provides an annual income support of ₹6,000 to eligible farmer families, transferred directly into their bank accounts in ₹2,000 instalments every four months. To date, over ₹3.70 lakh crore has been transferred to more than 11 crore farmers across 20 instalments.
Several significant digital upgrades have been implemented to streamline the process and improve farmer access. Farmers can now complete their e-KYC using three methods: OTP-based, Biometric, or a new Face-authentication feature that allows completion from home. The PM-KISAN portal now features a 'Know Your Status' option, enabling beneficiaries to check their instalment approval, details needing correction (Aadhaar, bank), land record updates, and e-KYC status. The PM-KISAN Mobile App has also been enhanced for tracking payments and updates.
A major development is the launch of 'Kisan-eMitra', an AI-powered chatbot available 24/7 in 11 regional languages, designed to handle farmer grievances and queries efficiently via kisanemitra.gov.in. Furthermore, a national Farmer Registry is being developed to create a verified database of land-owning cultivators, aiming to automate scheme benefits and reduce duplication. India Post Payments Bank continues to offer doorstep banking services for account opening, linking, and PM-KISAN registration support.
Impact: These digital upgrades aim to simplify verification, strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms, ensure last-mile connectivity, and increase transparency in the distribution of financial aid. They empower farmers with easier access to information and services, potentially leading to more efficient delivery of benefits and improved rural economic stability. Rating: 8/10
