Amul Deploys AI Assistant 'Sarlaben' to Supercharge Dairy Farmer Productivity
Overview

Dairy giant Amul is launching 'Sarlaben', an AI-powered digital assistant, to provide 24/7 support to dairy farmers across Gujarat. Integrated with Amul's Automatic Milk Collection System and the Pashudhan application, it offers personalized guidance on cattle health, farming practices, and government schemes. Accessible via a mobile app and voice calls, Sarlaben aims to enhance animal productivity and farmer income using five decades of cooperative data.

Digital Assistant for Ground-Level Impact

Amul, a leader in India's dairy sector, has taken a significant technological stride with the introduction of 'Sarlaben', an artificial intelligence-driven digital assistant. This initiative is poised to revolutionize dairy farming by offering continuous, personalized support directly to farmers in thousands of villages across Gujarat. The assistant promises to be a readily available resource, available around the clock, bridging information gaps at the grassroots level.

Integrated Support System

'Sarlaben' seamlessly integrates with Amul's existing technological infrastructure, including the Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) and the Pashudhan application. This integration allows the AI to provide tailored advice encompassing critical areas such as cattle health management, optimal vaccination schedules, necessary medical treatments, effective feeding strategies, and breeding practices. Furthermore, it will disseminate crucial information regarding government schemes and available subsidies, empowering farmers with comprehensive knowledge.

Accessibility and Data Foundation

The AI assistant will be accessible through the Amul Farmer mobile application, which already boasts over a million users. For farmers with feature phones or landlines, interaction via voice calls in Gujarati ensures broad reach and ease of use. Jayen Mehta, managing director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), emphasized that 'Sarlaben' leverages decades of structured data, enhancing the platform's ability to deliver verified information and enable timely decisions that boost animal productivity and farmer incomes. This initiative aligns with national objectives to empower women milk producers through technology.

Leveraging Decades of Data

The platform's intelligence is built upon an extensive cooperative IT ecosystem, drawing from over five decades of Amul's operational data. This includes a vast repository of milk procurement transactions, veterinary treatments administered to millions of cattle, and numerous artificial insemination records. Data incorporating fodder production from satellite imagery and a regular cattle census further enriches the AI's training base, enabling it to provide accurate, farmer-specific guidance and marking a new era for India's cooperative dairy movement.
