First C295 Rolls Off Local Assembly Line
The C295 aircraft's rollout, pending official confirmation, marks a crucial step toward fulfilling a 2021 agreement. Under this deal, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will locally produce 40 C295 aircraft. An additional 16 will be supplied directly from Airbus's facility in Seville, Spain. The total procurement deal is valued around Rs 21,935 crore.
Local Assembly and Deal Details
The aircraft reportedly completed final assembly this week, sparking speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could attend a formal rollout ceremony. This program is central to India's efforts to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing and lessen dependence on foreign suppliers.
Local Content and Aircraft Features
About 70% of the aircraft's components are reportedly sourced locally, embedding India into intricate aerospace supply chains. However, crucial systems, such as Pratt & Whitney engines, are still imported. The C295 is a versatile aircraft, suited for transporting troops and cargo, conducting medical evacuations, and performing surveillance. It can operate from short and unprepared airstrips.
