MIDHANI Shares Hit 52-Week High After GE Aerospace S400 Nod

Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI) shares surged 11% to a 52-week high of ₹451.65 today after becoming the first Indian firm to secure GE Aerospace's S400 material testing certification. This milestone strengthens the state-run defense manufacturer's global standing as it looks to capitalize on its ₹2,329 crore order book.

Shares of Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI) jumped 11% on Thursday, reaching a 52-week high of ₹451.65. The market reaction follows the company's disclosure that it has received the Independent and International Metallic Material Laboratory (S400) approval from GE Aerospace. This certification makes MIDHANI the first Indian firm to achieve this global standard for chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical testing.

For investors, this S400 approval is a qualitative endorsement that may help the company secure more international aerospace contracts, potentially diversifying its revenue beyond domestic defense orders. With the company already maintaining a strong order book of ₹2,329 crore as of July 1, 2026, this certification expands the scope of high-precision projects it can bid for in the global aerospace supply chain.

The company’s recent financial performance has been positive. In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (Q1FY27), MIDHANI reported revenue of ₹239.49 crore, a 40.46% increase compared to the same period last year. Net profit for the quarter rose by 27.42% to ₹16.31 crore. While these numbers show year-on-year growth, the defense manufacturing sector comes with specific operational characteristics that investors often track.

Defense and aerospace contracts are often "lumpy," meaning revenue recognition can fluctuate significantly from one quarter to the next based on delivery schedules and project milestones. This can sometimes lead to volatility in quarterly earnings. Additionally, the company's historical return ratios, such as Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Capital Employed (ROCE), have been more moderate compared to some high-growth private defense peers. Investors may closely monitor whether the company can consistently translate its growing order book into higher profitability and improved margins over the coming quarters.

The management has previously indicated a focus on operational efficiency to improve EBITDA margins, which have historically fluctuated in the 18-20% range. Analysts have looked for improvements toward the 23-25% band as capacity utilization increases. Moving forward, the key monitorable will be the company's ability to maintain this margin expansion and the execution speed of its existing order pipeline to ensure sustainable earnings growth.
