The collaboration centers on establishing a dedicated manufacturing unit at Lohia’s existing facility in Kanpur, which is currently undergoing a significant capacity expansion. This initiative represents a major move toward localizing the production of complex aerospace parts and composite tooling.

Investment and Operational Scale

The company plans to invest between $8 million and $10 million over the next 12 to 24 months to set up this new manufacturing platform. As part of this expansion, Lohia Aerospace is scaling its physical footprint in Kanpur, adding a 250,000-square-foot facility to complement its existing 80,000-square-foot plant. In the initial phase, the company intends to deploy 8 to 10 large-format 3D printers. Each unit is designed to produce one to two complete tool sets daily, with the entire operation expected to generate 60 to 100 new skilled jobs in the region.

Technology Impact on Manufacturing

The adoption of large-format additive manufacturing is designed to replace traditional manual processes that are currently standard in India’s composite production industry. By utilizing this technology, Lohia Aerospace expects to reduce production cycles for moulds and tools from several weeks to just a few days. This transition is projected to cut manufacturing times by up to 90% and potentially reduce final costs to customers by up to 50%. The company has secured exclusive rights to utilize this technology platform specifically for the Indian aerospace and defense sector, including applications for both manned aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.

This partnership aligns with the broader push toward self-reliance in India’s aerospace and defense manufacturing sector. By producing large-scale tools domestically, Lohia Aerospace aims to substitute the current reliance on imported tooling.
