Karnataka Targets 50% of India’s $22 Billion Space Market by 2034

Karnataka has launched its Space Technology Policy 2025-30 to secure a 50% share of India’s projected $22 billion space industry by 2034. By offering financial subsidies and creating specialized manufacturing clusters near Bengaluru, the state aims to attract $3–$5 billion in investments. Investors should track how this policy impacts aerospace and precision engineering firms operating within the state as regional competition intensifies.

Karnataka is positioning itself as a central hub for India’s growing space sector. Through the recently implemented Space Technology Policy 2025-30, the state government has outlined an ambitious target to capture half of the national space economy, which is projected to reach $22 billion by 2034. The policy aims to move the state beyond its existing aerospace and defense research roots into high-volume commercial production of hardware and satellite services.

To drive this transition, the administration is deploying a multi-pronged incentive structure. Businesses investing in the state can access subsidies ranging from 20% to 25% on plant, machinery, and land costs. Additionally, the government is prioritizing the development of 'plug-and-play' space manufacturing clusters near Bengaluru. These sites are designed to consolidate the supply chain, bringing together startups, micro-small-and-medium enterprises, and large manufacturers to streamline the assembly, integration, and testing of space hardware.

The strategic goal is to attract between $3 billion and $5 billion in cumulative investments over the policy period. By supporting 500 or more startups and MSMEs and training 50,000 professionals, the state intends to build a self-sustaining ecosystem that can handle high-tech manufacturing, including propulsion systems, avionics, and geospatial applications. This move is intended to align with national reforms, such as the Indian Space Policy 2023, which encourages private sector participation in the space value chain.

While the policy creates a framework for growth, investors should consider the competitive landscape. Karnataka faces significant pressure from other states, including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Gujarat, all of which have established their own dedicated space technology policies to attract similar capital. The ability of the state to successfully implement the proposed space parks on time remains a key execution variable.

Furthermore, there is a structural challenge regarding the transition of domestic MSMEs from prototype development to commercial, high-volume production. Success for listed companies in the aerospace and defense sectors will depend on their ability to leverage these new manufacturing clusters efficiently. Moving forward, market participants should monitor the actual commissioning of the space manufacturing parks and the uptake of incentive packages by major industrial players, as these will be early indicators of the policy’s effectiveness in translating government goals into private sector output.
