Data Patterns Acquires ST Advanced Composites for ₹10 Crore

Data Patterns has announced the acquisition of ST Advanced Composites for ₹10 crore to strengthen its in-house manufacturing of defense parts. While the company reported a 17% revenue rise, its quarterly net profit declined by 14%.

Data Patterns (India), a specialist in defense and aerospace electronics, has officially approved the acquisition of ST Advanced Composites Pvt Ltd (STAC) for a total cash consideration of ₹10 crore. This strategic investment is designed to bring the manufacturing of critical composite components under the company’s own control, reducing reliance on third-party suppliers for radar systems and other defense programs. By internalizing this capability, the company aims to enhance its vertical integration, which could eventually lead to better control over production timelines and component quality.

Financial Performance and Order Book

The company’s latest financial report for the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year presents a mixed picture. While revenue from operations grew by 17% to reach ₹116 crore, profitability came under pressure. Net profit for the June quarter fell by 14% to ₹22 crore, compared to ₹25.5 crore in the same period last year. Rising operational costs or changes in the product mix often impact margins in the defense sector, where projects can have varying levels of profitability. On a positive note, the company maintains a solid foundation for future growth with an order book valued at ₹928 crore as of June 30, 2026.

Management View on Revenue Delays

Addressing the financial performance, management noted that while the overall trajectory remains positive, the current quarter saw lower-than-anticipated revenue recognition due to timing issues. Specifically, the company experienced delays in receiving necessary customer approvals. Chairman and Managing Director Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan indicated that these are temporary hurdles and expects them to be cleared in the coming quarters. Furthermore, the company reported fresh order inflows exceeding ₹226 crore year-to-date, suggesting that demand for its defense electronics remains active.

Stock Market Context

Shares of Data Patterns ended the trading session on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at ₹4,451.70, recording a marginal gain of 0.34%. In the defense electronics sector, investors often monitor the gap between order intake and actual revenue execution. Since defense projects typically have long cycles, the speed at which the company converts its ₹928 crore order book into actual revenue will be a key area for investors to track. Additionally, the integration of ST Advanced Composites will be monitored for its impact on operational efficiency and whether it helps stabilize profit margins in future quarters.
