Bharat Electronics Bags ₹847 Crore Defense Orders

Navratna PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has secured new defense orders worth ₹847 crore since July 13 for technologies including electro-optics and security systems. This follows a strong first-quarter performance where revenue grew by over 25%, though profit margins faced slight pressure. Investors will track whether the company can maintain these margins while executing its massive ₹72,258 crore order book.

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) announced on Friday that it has added ₹847 crore worth of new contracts to its order book since July 13. The orders span specialized defense sectors, including electro-optics, security operation centers, seekers, and various components and services. This latest win follows a robust start to the fiscal year for the state-run defense major.

Q1 Performance and Margin Trends

The company’s financial results for the first quarter showed strong topline growth, with revenue from operations rising 25.3% year-on-year to ₹5,533 crore, outperforming market expectations of ₹5,100 crore. Net profit also saw an 8.8% increase, reaching ₹1,054 crore. Despite this, the company’s operating profitability showed signs of pressure. The EBITDA margin, which reflects core operational efficiency, slipped to 25.1% compared to 28.1% in the same quarter last year. This performance fell short of the 26.6% margin predicted by analysts, suggesting that increased operational costs or shifts in project mix may be impacting profitability.

Order Book and Expansion Plans

As of July 1, 2026, BEL reported a substantial order book of ₹72,258 crore, which provides clear visibility for future revenue execution. To support its ongoing growth and capital requirements, the board has approved a proposal to increase the company's authorized share capital from ₹750 crore to ₹1,000 crore. This proposal is currently pending approval from shareholders at the upcoming annual general meeting. Regarding geopolitical risks, the company confirmed that the ongoing conflict in Israel has not had a material financial impact on its existing contracts with regional partners.

Next Monitorables

For investors, the key factor to track remains the company's ability to stabilize and improve its operating margins while navigating a high-volume order book. While revenue growth has remained consistent, the ability to control costs amidst expanding operations will be crucial for protecting shareholder value. The progress on the authorized share capital increase and the execution timeline for the latest ₹847 crore orders will be the next important updates to follow.
