Avidrone, an aerospace startup, has secured the top position in the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Lift Challenge. The company's Katana helicopter drone, which weighs 13.3 kg, demonstrated its capability by successfully lifting a 51 kg payload during the competition held in Dayton, Ohio. This achievement resulted in a payload-to-weight ratio of 3.84:1, which was the highest performance among the participating teams. While the performance was notable, no team was able to meet DARPA’s ambitious 4:1 target for drones in that weight class, leading to a reduced prize pool of $1.25 million for the winner.
