Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Named 29th Chief of Indian Air Force

The Ministry of Defence has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff. He is set to take charge on October 31, 2026, succeeding the retiring Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh. This appointment brings a new chapter of leadership to the Indian Air Force as it continues its ongoing fleet modernization and indigenous development programs.

The Ministry of Defence has officially appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff. The transition of command is scheduled for October 31, 2026, when he will succeed the current Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, upon his retirement.

Air Marshal Dixit brings extensive operational experience to the top post. Commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1986, he has logged over 3,500 hours of flight time. His flying career includes handling frontline fighter aircraft such as the Mirage-2000 and the Jaguar. Furthermore, his experience with the indigenously developed Tejas light combat aircraft highlights his deep involvement with the force's transition toward domestic technology.

Before this appointment, Air Marshal Dixit served as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff and held other pivotal leadership roles, including Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee. He also served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command, gaining significant insight into the country's defense infrastructure and operational readiness. His background as an experimental test pilot and a qualified flying instructor is expected to play a vital role in overseeing the technical and tactical growth of the force.

For market observers and those tracking the defense sector, leadership changes at the helm of the armed forces are significant. These appointments are closely monitored for their potential influence on the continuity of large-scale defense procurement, indigenization efforts, and the pace of modernization projects. As the Indian Air Force moves forward with major inductions of locally manufactured equipment, the new leadership will be responsible for balancing operational demands with the sustained growth of the domestic defense ecosystem. His service has been recognized with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2026 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023, reflecting a career of distinguished contribution to national security.
