Allcargo Terminals Expands JNPT Container Facility
Allcargo Terminals Ltd. has significantly boosted the capacity of its container freight station (CFS) facility located near Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The operator announced Tuesday an increase to 3.6 lakh twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per year, a substantial jump from the previous 1.90 lakh TEUs.
Strategic Capacity Augmentation
This expansion is a core component of Allcargo Terminals' strategic three-year plan, focusing on scaling operations, digitization, and infrastructure upgrades across its national network. The move aims to strengthen India's EXIM trade infrastructure, reflecting the company's commitment to growth.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Operations
The upgraded facility now includes a 25% increase in warehousing capacity and specialized zones for handling special and over-dimensional cargo (ODC). Operations are powered by RTG-enabled, tag-less systems, ensuring efficient cargo flow to meet the rising volumes handled by JNPT. Digital tools like the MyCFS app and smart yard management systems facilitate paperless and seamless workflows.
Supporting Trade Growth
"Jawaharlal Nehru Port is one of the most critical gateways for India's EXIM trade, and our capacity expansion here is both strategic and timely," stated Sunny Williams, Regional Head, West, Allcargo Terminals Ltd. The enhanced yard and warehousing capabilities are designed to handle increased cargo flows with precision and efficiency.
Allcargo Terminals' proximity to JNPT facilitates faster turnaround times for cargo. The expansion also supports JNPT's objective to become the first Indian port to handle 10 million TEUs by 2027. The company operates seven CFS and ICD facilities nationwide, including a second facility near JNP through its subsidiary, Speedy Multimodes.
