Postpaid Price Adjustments
The telecom operator's move sees a two-connection plan now priced at Rs 751, up from Rs 701. Similarly, the four-connection pack has risen to Rs 1,301 from Rs 1,201, and the five-connection variant is now Rs 1,525, an increase from Rs 1,401.
Competitive Landscape Shift
Morgan Stanley noted that these revised plans have become 7-9% more expensive than comparable offerings from rival Bharti Airtel. Historically, Vodafone Idea's plans were seen as more affordable, but this price adjustment shifts that dynamic.
Financial and Regulatory Headwinds
This pricing strategy unfolds amid significant financial and legal developments for the company. Earlier this month, Vodafone Idea received a Rs 638 crore GST penalty order from Ahmedabad. The company has stated its disagreement with the order and intends to pursue legal action.
This move follows a major relief for Vodafone Idea regarding its Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues. The Union Cabinet approved a payment moratorium and allowed for the reassessment of capped AGR dues, providing a crucial breathing room for the financially strained operator.
Stock Performance
On Wednesday, Vodafone Idea's shares closed 0.89% higher at Rs 10.22 on the NSE, while the broader Nifty index saw a marginal 0.30% decline. Over the past 12 months, the stock has appreciated by 9.19%.
