Indus Towers has officially expanded its footprint into the African continent, establishing two new wholly owned subsidiaries in Nigeria and Zambia.
African Venture Launched
The company's step-down subsidiaries, Indus Towers Management FZE and Indus Towers Investment FZE, incorporated Indus Towers Nigeria Limited and Indus Towers Infra Zambia Limited on January 15, 2026. This move signifies a formal entry into the vibrant African telecom infrastructure sector.
Strategic Growth Initiative
This expansion aligns with Indus Towers' long-term growth strategy, previously announced in October, targeting African markets within three to six months. The initial focus will be on building new towers and understanding local operational dynamics, with a planned capital expenditure of $200 million to $300 million.
Leveraging Partnerships
CEO Prachur Sah highlighted the support of an anchor customer, specifically Airtel's strong market presence, which will be leveraged. Sah expressed confidence in Africa's growth potential, drawing parallels to India's telecommunications development trajectory several years ago. The company intends to replicate its successful Indian operating model, building cost-efficient infrastructure tailored to local requirements.
Operational Mandate
Both newly formed entities in Nigeria and Zambia will operate within the telecom infrastructure segment. Their primary functions include the establishment, operation, management, and maintenance of telecommunication towers and related infrastructure for various wireless communication services. No governmental or regulatory approvals were required for the incorporation of these entities.
