RailTel Wins Ethiopia Data Centre Project
RailTel Corporation is set to establish a significant greenfield data centre for Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Addis Ababa. The Railway Navratna company announced that this project is a critical component of India’s commitment to the 'Digital Ethiopia Strategy'. The deal signals a strategic international expansion for India's digital infrastructure capabilities.
Project Scope and Timeline
The project is scheduled for completion within one year, with an additional three years allocated for comprehensive Operation and Maintenance (O&M) support post-launch. This substantial undertaking was assigned to RailTel by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, underscoring bilateral cooperation in digital transformation initiatives. The move positions RailTel as a key player in exporting India's proven digital models to partner nations.
Global Ambitions and Strategy
RailTel’s international expansion strategy focuses on deploying successful Indian digital solutions across the globe. The company previously participated in Sri Lanka's Unique Identity (UID) project, also supported by the Indian government. RailTel is actively exploring strategic partnerships with global original equipment manufacturers. These collaborations aim to facilitate technology transfer, promote 'Make-in-India' manufacturing, and support the localization of advanced digital technologies.
Expanding Reach
The company is actively scouting opportunities across the Middle East, Africa, Caribbean, South America, South-East Asia, and Australia. To facilitate this global outreach, RailTel recently issued Expressions of Interest (EoI) to firms and agencies with a worldwide presence, seeking collaborators for international projects. This proactive approach underscores RailTel's ambition to become a global provider of digital infrastructure solutions.
