Developing New Standards
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is actively consulting with the mobile industry to craft a robust regulatory framework for device security. This effort, confirmed on Sunday, seeks to address escalating concerns over cyber fraud and privacy breaches affecting India's vast mobile user base.
Addressing Critical Risks
Smartphones are central to financial transactions, public services, and sensitive data storage, making them prime targets for hackers. MeitY is exploring options from software upgrades to enhanced bank security and faster fund recovery mechanisms to protect users from identity theft and financial loss.
Industry Collaboration Key
The consultations are examining safety compliance, EMI/EMC parameters, Indian language support, interface requirements, and security protocols. MeitY assured that standards will be finalized based on feedback, promising an open-minded approach to industry concerns and international best practices to balance security with operational feasibility.
