India-Sourced Ozempic Reaches US Patients
Canadian online pharmacy SaveRxCanada.to announced Wednesday it is now offering Novo Nordisk's popular diabetes and weight-loss drug Ozempic to U.S. patients. The crucial distinction is that these injections are sourced from India, presenting a significant price advantage.
Price Disparity Fuels Demand
The platform states India-sourced Ozempic pens start at approximately $280. This price point drastically contrasts with U.S. retail pharmacies, where Ozempic typically ranges from $900 to $1,100 per pen, depending on the dosage and location. This substantial cost difference is attributed to rising out-of-pocket expenses for many American consumers. SaveRxCanada.to describes itself as an international prescription referral service with 24 years of operation.
Manufacturer Denies Involvement
Novo Nordisk, the Denmark-based manufacturer of Ozempic, has publicly distanced itself from the Canadian platform's claims. A spokesperson stated on Thursday that the company has "no customer or partner relationship with this company/platform, and Ozempic from India has not been provided to them." The exact method by which SaveRxCanada.to is obtaining the medication remains unclear, as the company declined to comment when contacted directly.
Regulatory Scrutiny Looms
Officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declined to comment on SaveRxCanada.to's distribution claims. They instead directed consumers to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) BeSafeRx resource, which offers guidance on safely purchasing prescription medicines online. The platform requires a valid prescription for all orders and advertises free shipping.
