New Brew Hits Market
Bengaluru-based United Breweries Limited (UBL), a subsidiary of The HEINEKEN Company, has rolled out Kingfisher Smooth. This launch expands the iconic Kingfisher brand's portfolio within India's significant mainstream strong beer segment. The initial release took place in Rajasthan, recognized as one of the country's largest markets for strong beer.
Ambitious Expansion Plans
UBL Chief Executive Vivek Gupta outlined a strategic vision for national expansion. The company aims to scale the Kingfisher Smooth launch across India over the next 12 to 18 months. Gupta emphasized UBL's role in developing the beer category, highlighting its current low per capita consumption and limited share in overall alcohol consumption occasions.
Consumer-Driven Innovation
The development of Kingfisher Smooth was driven by consumer feedback. Feedback indicated a demand for a strong beer that remained more sessionable and offered lower bitterness. Kingfisher, with its established market presence, is positioned to lead this category expansion. Gupta expressed confidence that the new offering will stimulate both the category and the Kingfisher brand.
Revitalizing Mainstream Segment
While premium segments show robust growth, this initiative specifically targets the revival of the mainstream beer segment under the Kingfisher umbrella. UBL anticipates Kingfisher Smooth will be a significant innovation, driving greater penetration among younger consumers entering the beer market. The company's existing portfolio includes popular brands like Kingfisher Strong, Premium, Ultra, and Heineken offerings.
