HDFC Bank Services Offline Jan 10; Digital Rupee Payments Go Live
Overview

HDFC Bank customers will face a four-hour digital service disruption on January 10, 2026, impacting NetBanking, mobile app, and UPI transfers. Separately, the bank launched integration of the Reserve Bank of India's Digital Rupee into its merchant payment platform, SmartGateway, offering zero-cost digital transactions.

Scheduled Downtime Disrupts HDFC Bank Digital Services

HDFC Bank customers are advised of significant digital service interruptions on January 10, 2026. Between 02:30 AM and 06:30 AM IST, the bank will undergo scheduled system maintenance. This four-hour window will render core banking platforms unavailable.

Services Affected

During the maintenance period, customers will be unable to access NetBanking and the mobile application. Key services including fund transfers via UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS, and intra-bank transfers will not be functional. Online payments and other account-related transactions will also be suspended. However, the bank has assured customers that the PayZapp Wallet will remain operational for payments and money transfers.

Digital Rupee Integration Boosts Merchant Payments

In a separate development, HDFC Bank has successfully integrated the Reserve Bank of India's Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), known as the Digital Rupee, into its online merchant payment platform, SmartGateway. This strategic move aims to enhance digital payment options for both merchants and consumers.

Benefits for Merchants and Customers

Merchants utilizing SmartGateway can now offer customers a sovereign-backed digital payment option at zero transaction cost. This integration allows the Digital Rupee to be accepted alongside existing payment methods such as UPI, cards, and net banking. HDFC Bank stated that customers will experience an instant and secure payment process, while merchants gain an additional, cost-free payment channel.
