Mahindra & Mahindra anticipates its sales momentum will carry through 2026, driven by a robust SUV lineup and recent product introductions. The company's executive leadership expressed confidence in maintaining growth on the back of strategic actions taken over the past four years.
SUV Dominance Fuels Growth
Last year, the Mumbai-based auto giant ascended to the second position in passenger vehicle sales, outmaneuvering competitors like Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Hyundai Motor India. This market shift highlights a growing preference for SUVs, which accounted for 55.8% of total passenger vehicle sales in 2025, up from 53.8% in 2024. Mahindra's own retail sales saw a significant 20% increase to 5,92,771 units in 2025.
New Launches Boost Outlook
Mahindra & Mahindra Executive Director and CEO (Auto & Farm Sectors) Rajesh Jejurikar pointed to differentiated products such as the Thar Roxx and the recently launched XUV 7XO as key drivers. The introduction of new Bolero versions also contributed to the company's strong performance. Jejurikar noted that customers are seeking novelty, and Mahindra has consistently delivered popular new models.
Economic Tailwinds
Favorable policy changes, including GST reforms, are cited as major enablers for the automotive sector's growth. Passenger vehicle wholesales in India reached a record 45.5 lakh units in 2025, surpassing the previous peak. Jejurikar indicated that with India's GDP projected to grow between 7.5-8%, this economic stimulus will likely boost various market segments.
Electric Vehicle Ambitions
Looking ahead, Mahindra & Mahindra remains optimistic about its electric vehicle (EV) range. The company aims to sell approximately 7,000 EV units by the end of the current fiscal year, building on its current monthly sales of 4,000 to 5,000 units. Production capacity is set to expand, with new facilities planned by 2027.
