Major Defence Contract Awarded
Zen Technologies announced on Friday it secured a significant ₹404 crore order from India's Ministry of Defence for the supply of anti-drone systems. The domestic contract, set for execution within one year, marks a substantial boost for the defence technology firm.
Order Breakdown and Execution
The total order value, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), comprises ₹332 crore allocated for the supply of Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and ₹72 crore for accompanying training simulators and related equipment. This strategic procurement underscores the increasing focus on advanced aerial defence capabilities within the Indian armed forces.
Sectoral Context and Financial Snapshot
This new order follows closely on the heels of a ₹120 crore contract awarded to Zen Technologies last month by the same ministry for training nodes. However, the company's recent financial performance presents a mixed picture. For the second quarter of fiscal year 2026 (Q2FY26), Zen Technologies reported a net profit of ₹61.9 crore, a decline of over 2% year-on-year. Total income for the quarter also fell 20% year-on-year to ₹198.8 crore.
Market Reaction and Outlook
The announcement propelled Zen Technologies' share price up by over 8% in early morning trading on Friday. Despite this surge, the stock has experienced a decline of over 2% in the past month and a significant 40.5% drop over the last year. The broader Nifty Defence Index, however, has shown robust growth, rising over 25% in the past year, indicating strong investor interest in the sector.
