IDFC FIRST Bank has introduced its Zero-Forex Diamond Reserve Credit Card, a new offering designed specifically for frequent international travelers. Launched in Mumbai on January 6, the card eliminates foreign exchange markup charges on all overseas transactions, a significant perk for globetrotters.
Zero-Forex Advantage
The primary draw is the complete absence of forex markup fees. This means customers can use the card for purchases abroad without incurring the typical percentage-based charges added by most banks on foreign currency transactions. This move directly addresses a key pain point for international travelers.
Rewarding Your Travels
The card is loaded with travel-focused rewards. Users can earn up to 60 reward points for every ₹150 spent on hotel bookings and 40 reward points for every ₹150 on flight bookings made via the bank's app. Each point is valued at ₹0.25, translating to an effective value back of up to 10% on hotels and 6.6% on flights. For all other spends, cardholders receive up to 10 reward points per ₹150, offering a 1.66% return. Additional bonus rewards are available for monthly spends exceeding ₹20,000.
Comprehensive Travel Perks
Beyond spending rewards, the Zero-Forex Diamond Reserve Credit Card includes two complimentary domestic and two international airport lounge visits per quarter, subject to a minimum monthly spend. Cardholders also gain access to complimentary golf rounds or lessons, a meet-and-greet airport service on substantial annual spending, and a buy-one-get-one movie ticket offer. A complimentary trip cancellation cover of ₹25,000, plus insurance for lost baggage, delayed flights, air accidents, and personal accidents, further enhance its travel appeal.
Fees and Value Proposition
The card comes with a joining fee of ₹3,000 plus GST, and an identical annual fee from the second year. However, this annual fee is waived for cardholders who spend ₹6 lakh or more in a year, making it potentially free for high-usage customers. A joining benefit includes a ₹500 gift voucher for spending ₹5,000 within 30 days of activation.
Application and Eligibility
Applications are open digitally through the bank's website and mobile app. To activate the digital card and facilitate the dispatch of the physical metal card, the upfront joining fee payment is required. Lounge access benefits become available in the subsequent calendar month after meeting the minimum spend criteria. The bank notes that unused quarterly lounge visits do not roll over to the next quarter.
Bank's Strategic Outlook
Shirish Bhandari, head of credit cards at IDFC FIRST Bank, stated the card is tailored for customers with significant international travel exposure. He highlighted the combination of zero forex markup with travel-centric rewards and a substantial annual fee waiver threshold, positioning the card as a compelling primary option for both overseas and domestic spending.
