Lemon Tree Hotels Expands Haryana Presence with New Franchise Deal
Lemon Tree Hotels has signed a franchise agreement for a new 'Keys Prima by Lemon Tree Hotels' property in Karnal, Haryana. The upcoming hotel is set to feature 50 rooms, along with essential amenities including a restaurant, banquet and conference facilities, a swimming pool, and a fitness centre.
This new addition will bring Lemon Tree's total presence in Haryana to 13 hotels, comprising 11 operational properties and two more planned. The hotel's location, situated approximately 4.2 km from Karnal Railway Station, is strategically chosen to capture significant traveler demand.
The expansion underscores Lemon Tree's ongoing strategy to grow its network in key regional markets and transit hubs across India. By utilizing the franchise model, the company efficiently expands its reach and caters to diverse traveler needs. Karnal's position on the busy Grand Trunk (GT) Road corridor makes it a vital stop for many travelers.
Lemon Tree Hotels has consistently pursued an asset-light growth strategy, relying heavily on management contracts and franchise agreements. This approach enables rapid network expansion without the substantial capital investment typically associated with property ownership. Expanding into states like Haryana signals the company's intent to capture market share beyond major metropolitan areas, focusing on tier-2 cities and strategic economic corridors that show promise for sustained demand.
The development enhances Lemon Tree's brand visibility and operational footprint within Haryana. The addition of a Keys Prima branded hotel diversifies its offerings in the region, strengthening its position to benefit from the commercial and transit traffic along the Grand Trunk Road. This move is a step toward achieving the company's broader network expansion targets.
However, the hotel is scheduled for opening on May 18, 2026, indicating a significant development timeline and potential for delays. The company will also rely on its franchise partner for operational execution and adherence to brand standards. Potential competition from other hotel operators in Karnal and surrounding areas is also a factor to monitor.
This strategic expansion aligns with broader industry trends, as competitors like Indian Hotels Company Ltd. (IHCL) are also growing their mid-market brands, such as Ginger, in similar tier-2 cities and transit locations to capture this segment of demand.
