Mphasis Acquires AI Firm TAP to Boost Decision Intelligence
Mphasis, through its Irish subsidiary Mphasis Ireland Limited, has acquired Canadian AI firm Theory and Practice Business Intelligence Inc. (TAP). The deal involves an upfront payment of CAD 10 million, with potential milestone payments of up to CAD 20 million, making the total transaction value up to CAD 30 million.
Boosting AI and Sector Reach
This strategic move significantly enhances Mphasis's Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities, particularly in decision intelligence. The acquisition also aims to strengthen its presence in the Retail and Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) sectors by integrating TAP's proprietary Continuum AI platform. The platform is designed to help enterprises scale AI from pilot projects to enterprise-wide solutions.
TAP's Business and Financials
TAP, founded in 2018, specializes in AI-driven decision intelligence, using AI and behavioral economics for sectors like financial services, retail, and CPG. In fiscal year 2025 (FY25), TAP reported a turnover of CAD 1.71 million, down from CAD 3.13 million in FY24 and CAD 3.09 million in FY23.
Leadership and Client Benefits
As part of the acquisition, TAP's CEO, Dr. Rogayeh Tabrizi, will join Mphasis as Executive Vice President – CPG and Head of Decision AI. Clients can expect Mphasis to offer enhanced solutions in areas such as demand forecasting, supply chain optimization, and personalized marketing driven by advanced AI tools.
Mphasis's AI Strategy Context
The acquisition of TAP aligns with Mphasis's broader strategy to lead with AI-powered solutions. This follows previous moves, such as a subsidiary acquiring a stake in Aokah Inc. in July 2025 to boost AI capabilities for Global Capability Centers (GCCs). Mphasis also operates a dedicated Mphasis.ai unit.
Competitive Landscape and Risks
The AI and digital transformation market is intensely competitive. Major IT service providers like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro are also heavily investing in AI and digital services, often through acquisitions, to expand their offerings and market share. Mphasis faces challenges in successfully integrating TAP and its platform, achieving performance targets for milestone payments, and scaling advanced AI solutions across diverse client environments.
Key Areas to Monitor
Going forward, stakeholders will track the integration progress of TAP and its platform into Mphasis's operations. The revenue contribution from TAP and its impact on Mphasis's growth in Retail and CPG segments will be closely watched. Additionally, assessing how Mphasis leverages its new decision intelligence capabilities to win clients and navigate competitive pressures will be crucial.
