ACME Solar Activates 35 MW Rajasthan Battery Storage Phase II
ACME Solar Holdings has brought online the second phase of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Jaimalsar, Rajasthan. This latest addition provides 35.714 MW of power capacity and 160.48 MWh of energy storage. With this commissioning, ACME Solar's total operational BESS capacity reaches 95.714 MW / 430.086 MWh, a significant step toward the project's full 250 MW / 1103.392 MWh capacity.
New Capacity Added
ACME Surya Power Private Limited, a subsidiary of ACME Solar Holdings, confirmed the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for this phase as March 26, 2026. The new capacity adds 35.714 MW of power capacity and 160.48 MWh of energy storage to ACME's operational portfolio.
Why This Matters
This expansion is crucial for India's energy transition. Battery storage systems like BESS are essential for grid stability, helping to integrate renewable sources such as solar and wind power. They store energy when demand is low and release it during peak times, improving grid reliability and power usage efficiency. As a leading renewable energy independent power producer (IPP), ACME Solar is strategically growing its energy storage segment to complement its existing solar and wind portfolios.
Background and Previous Projects
ACME Solar has been steadily increasing its battery storage footprint, particularly in Rajasthan. The company has focused on BESS projects, some operating on a merchant basis to take advantage of price differences between peak and off-peak electricity. These systems connect to India's national grid infrastructure. In December 2024, ACME Solar had already commissioned substantial solar projects totaling 1,023 MW in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, showcasing its ability to execute large-scale renewable energy developments.
Impact of the Commissioning
The commissioning of Phase II moves the Jaimalsar project closer to its total planned capacity. This enhances ACME Solar's potential to generate revenue through energy arbitrage and grid support services. It strengthens ACME's role in India's evolving energy market, shifting from pure generation to offering integrated energy solutions.
Competitive Landscape
ACME Solar operates in a competitive landscape with other major Indian power companies investing in renewables and storage. Key competitors include Tata Power, which is also expanding its BESS portfolio, and Adani Green Energy and ReNew Energy, prominent players in the renewable IPP sector likely to increase their focus on energy storage.
Investor Focus
Investors will be watching ACME Solar's progress on completing the remaining phases of the Jaimalsar BESS project. Key indicators will include operational performance, revenue generation from energy storage services, and any new power purchase agreements (PPAs) for these services. Continued expansion into other BESS projects will also signal the company's strategic direction.
