Avenue Supermarts Limited added three new stores on March 29, 2026, increasing its total operational count to 481 across India. The new outlets are located in Pipla (Nagpur), Ghaziabad, and Jabalpur.
This expansion is part of DMart's strategy to grow its physical retail presence and reach more customers. By opening new stores, DMart aims to capture a larger share of value-seeking shoppers and reinforce its position as a leading value retailer in the Indian market.
The company has consistently pursued rapid store expansion, a model built on its 'Every Day Low Price' (EDLP) and 'Every Day Low Cost' (EDLC) principles. DMart often owns its retail properties to control costs and improve operational efficiency, supporting its aggressive growth.
Customers in Pipla (Nagpur), Ghaziabad, and Jabalpur will now have access to DMart's value-focused offerings. This move enhances the company's market presence in these regions.
However, Avenue Supermarts faces ongoing challenges. Competition from major players like Reliance Retail and V-Mart, alongside rising staff costs, continues to impact gross margins. The company has also encountered regulatory issues, including a SEBI fine for disclosure delays and penalties related to product standards, though it states these have minimal impact.
Compared to rivals, DMart's store count of 481 is significantly lower than Reliance Retail's over 19,340 stores (FY2025). Competitor V-Mart Retail had approximately 533 stores as of September 2025, placing DMart in a comparable segment but with a distinct growth pace.
