Patel Engineering JV Blacklisted in Nepal
Patel Engineering Ltd's joint venture in Nepal, RAMAN PATEL J.V., has been blacklisted by the Public Procurement Monitoring Office of the Government of Nepal. This regulatory action will prevent the JV from participating in public procurement projects in Nepal for three years, from May 27, 2026, to May 26, 2029.
Contract Dispute Led to Blacklisting
The blacklisting follows the termination of a contract for the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project, Lot-1. Disputes between the Joint Venture and the project employer, Nepal's Department of Water Resources and Irrigation, resulted in the contract's termination. The RAMAN PATEL J.V. includes Patel Engineering with a 35% stake and Raman Construction as the lead partner holding 65%.
Patel Engineering Claims Minimal Financial Impact
Patel Engineering has indicated that the blacklisting will not have a material impact on its financial performance or operations. The company explained that all project execution responsibilities were managed by the lead partner, Raman Construction Private Limited. This structure is intended to mitigate direct financial liability for Patel Engineering, though reputational risks for the joint venture persist.
Legal Disputes Continue
The underlying contractual disputes remain under legal adjudication. Any developments in these ongoing legal proceedings could have implications, though management currently assesses the financial impact as minimal. Investors are advised to monitor these legal proceedings and Patel Engineering's approach to future international projects.
