Sunita Tools Launches US Defence Hub in Chicago
Sunita Tools Limited has established a significant operational base in the United States with the launch of its subsidiary, Sunita Defence Inc., in Chicago, Illinois. The office officially commenced operations on May 5, 2026.
This strategic expansion is designed to directly secure defence product orders and identify acquisition opportunities within the North American aerospace and defence market. Leading these new operations is Abheshek Satish Pandey, an engineering and aerospace expert with US experience, who will focus on growing the company's global defence manufacturing footprint.
The Chicago office will engage in bidding, quoting, and supplying defence products, including the 155mm M107 shells the company has already begun manufacturing. This move is a deliberate step to increase its presence in the key US defence market, with Mr. Pandey also tasked with identifying strategic acquisitions in defence, aerospace, engineering, and manufacturing.
This launch is crucial for Sunita Tools' ambition to become a global defence manufacturing leader. By establishing a direct US presence, the company aims to tap into one of the world's largest defence procurement markets, leveraging its manufacturing strengths, especially in artillery shells, for international sales and partnerships. The acquisition focus also signals a drive for market consolidation and technological integration.
Sunita Tools, with over 37 years in engineering and mould bases, has been diversifying into defence manufacturing. The company incorporated its US subsidiary, Sunita Defence Inc., in Wyoming in March 2026, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed the same month with a US firm to aid defence contract bidding. Earlier, in November 2025, Sunita Tools expanded its defence manufacturing capacity by renting a second factory in Faridabad and secured a major contract for manufacturing 240,000 empty NATO-specification 155mm M107 artillery shells.
Shareholders can anticipate Sunita Tools pursuing defence contracts directly in the competitive US market, with the Chicago office exploring potential acquisitions for inorganic growth. This represents a key step in the company’s global expansion. However, navigating the complex US defence procurement landscape and integrating future acquisitions will be critical. Forward-looking statements are subject to risks including government actions, local economic shifts, and technological uncertainties.
Sunita Tools enters a market alongside established Indian defence players like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL), and Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), who possess deep portfolios. While Sunita Tools is an emerging player focused on artillery shells, the sector's growth, supported by government initiatives and export potential, offers opportunities for new entrants. The company reported revenue of ₹30.7 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2025, building on its 37 years of experience.
Key areas for investors to track include significant defence contract wins by Sunita Defence Inc. in the US, details on acquisition targets, performance updates from the Chicago office, and progress in supplying 155mm M107 shells.
